Gospel

Jn 16:12–15

“I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”

Rethink Your Relationship

Welcome back to Radical and Relevant, where each day we are looking for a word or phrase or an idea from the daily gospel reading to anchor our day practically in the Gospel. Today's reading comes from John chapter 16:12 through 15. I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak of his own authority, but whatever he hears, he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. Therefore, I said that He will take what is mine and declare it to you. It's a short reading. Sometimes in these short readings, it can be hard to get focused in, and then by the time you're focused in, it can be over. And then you're thinking, "Okay, what's my word? What's my phrase? What's my idea?" The phrase that jumps out at me today is the Spirit of Truth. The Spirit of truth. Jesus talks about the Holy Spirit coming, the power of the Holy Spirit, how the Holy Spirit's going to come. In His authority, he's going to share what He shared. The Spirit of Truth.

We live in a culture that's very confused about truth. Actually, we live in a culture that doesn't even believe in truth. And so what is the role of the Spirit of Truth in a culture that doesn't believe in truth? And so this is a time for us to rethink our relationship with the Holy Spirit. This is a time where our relationship with the Holy Spirit becomes into focus. I wouldn't say more important than another time, but comes into focus because we need the Spirit of Truth to navigate these confusing times culturally.

And so today, we go through our day. Anytime you feel confused, anytime you have a decision to make, call on the Spirit of truth, and use that title that Jesus gave him. Call on the Holy Spirit and say, "Spirit of truth, show me what it is I should do here. Give me guidance. I'm confused. Give me clarity." Let's call on the Spirit of truth. God bless you. Have an amazing day and remember, don't just be yourself. Be the very best version of yourself. All that God created you to be.
